Following the appointment of eprivateclient Top 35 Under 35 Alan Kitcher as head of trusts & probate, international law firm Charles Russell Speechlys has also made a series of recent partner promotions.
Eight lawyers have been added to the partnership and a further four have been promoted to legal director and 22 to senior associate roles.
Among the new partners are two from the firm’s family team and two from its trust, tax and succession offering.
A 2015 eprivateclient Top 35 Under 35, Sarah Jane Boon joined the firm as a trainee in 2007, qualifying into the family team in 2009. She advises on all areas of family law, with a particular emphasis on the financial claims that arise on divorce, and has a great deal of experience in complex cases concerning substantial family wealth and those with an international element, as well as more standard domestic cases.
Also promoted in the family team was Jamie Kennaugh. She joined the firm as a trainee in 2007, qualifying into the family team in 2009. She advises on all areas of family law, including divorce/dissolution, finances and children matters. She has experience of a wide range of private family law proceedings, often with an international element, and also has particular expertise in children matters, including internal and international relocation and the general living arrangements for children after parents separate.
In the tax, trusts & succession team, James Bradford - who joined Charles Russell Speechlys in 2012 - is promoted. He provides advice to UK domiciled and non-UK domiciled individuals on UK taxation, trust, personal estate and succession planning matters.
From the same team, Sangna Chauhan - a 2013 Top 35 Under 35 - also becomes partner. She specialises in estate and tax planning for UK and non-UK domiciliaries, in particular focusing on will and trust (and alternative structure) based planning for high net worth individuals. She also acts for the trustees of both UK onshore and offshore trusts, providing both UK tax and English trust law advice.
James Carter, managing partner at Charles Russell Speechlys, commented: “We are seeing real momentum with these promotions, reflecting the strength and diversity of our practice. Half our new partners are women, and over 70 percent of those being promoted overall, including our new senior associates and legal directors, are female.
“These promotions acknowledge their hard work, excellent legal skills and service to our clients. It is particularly pleasing that four of our new partners joined us as trainees, reflecting our continuing commitment to nurturing home-grown talent.
“I congratulate all those who were promoted and wish them every success as they continue their career with us.
“Our new partners add to a busy year of recruitment, with fifteen lateral partner hires this past financial year spread across Hong Kong, Dubai, Luxembourg, Paris, and the UK.”
The other new partners are: Robert Birchall (corporate tax), Richard Coleman (corporate), Jonathan McDonald (commercial) and Charlotte Pender (commercial dispute resolution). The promotions were effective from 1 May 2018.
