2017 eprivateclient Top Law Firm Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth has made two promotions with Nick Rucker being appointed national head of tax, trusts & estates and George Merrylees being promoted to partner.
Previously head of the firm’s London & international team, Mr Rucker oversees the national tax, trusts & estates practice across Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth’s 14 offices.
The firm said Mr Rucker’s promotion marked an important step for Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth, which recently named Ros Bever as national head of family law, towards offering clients a full private client service across the UK.
Mr Rucker has a background in corporate and private client law with particular interest in international structuring, investment structures and tax for high-net-worth individuals, families and private offices. He co-founded Berkeley Law in 2009 having previously worked at Lawrence Graham and had also spent five years as an investment banker.
Craig Marshall, chief executive of Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth, said: “The national tax, trusts & estates team has already had some great success and recent hires show the development of the team into a recognised brand famed for both its expertise and its client service.
We plan to build on this position by further establishing national centres of excellence for this work, investing in client feedback and making sure that the service we offer meets their needs effectively.”
Mr Merrylees works across a full range of UK tax advice for international clients, including structuring UK business and property assets for clients abroad. He acts for business owners, high-net-worth individuals and families primarily based in Europe and Africa and also works very closely with French business groups and organisations.
Mr Rucker commented: “Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth is rapidly moving up the independent legal rankings across the country. We are carving out a reputation for high-quality advice that clients can understand and which really helps them achieve their goals.
“George is an example of someone who has gone from strength-to-strength at Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth. His work advising clients on international tax, trusts and estates, particularly for matters involving French-speaking countries, has made him a regular fixture of the Anglo-French legal world. As Brexit affects our lives more and more over the next few years more people will need international expertise as they review their lives and finances.”
In the past few months Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth’s national tax, trusts & estates team has recently added new Partners Kelly Greig, Andrew Parry and David Bird while Residential property Partner Jeremy Raj also joined the London office.
Irwin Mitchell Private Wealth was launched in May 2016 following Irwin Mitchell’s merger with Thomas Eggar and its acquisition of Berkeley Law.
