Offshore law firm Maples and Calder has opened a new office located in Jersey and “in response to client demand”, now provides Jersey legal services in the corporate, finance and investment funds areas as well as listing agent services for the listing of securities on The International Stock Exchange (TISE) in the Channel Islands.
As a result the firm has made three senior hires to support the expansion. The office is managed by Jersey advocate Chris Byrne who joins as managing partner and brings over 20 years' experience in the Jersey legal market. He joins from Cobalt Advisers and was previously at Ogier for 22 years.
Mr Byrne is joined by Simon Hopwood and Paul Burton. Mr Hopwood joins as partner and is an investment funds specialist who has almost 20 years' experience advising on private equity and real estate funds. He was previously a partner at Bedell Group for 15 years.
Mr Burton is a corporate and finance specialist and Jersey advocate who has experience in public and private M&A, corporate/investment structuring, debt financing and capital markets transactions. He has previously held roles at Carey Olsen as an senior associate and Ogier as an offshore lawyer.
These three senior hires will be supported by associates Anna Cochrane and Stephanie Edge and other lawyers who are due to join the Jersey team this autumn, the firm said.
